Glastonbury as a BKF Volunteer (2013)

My FIRST and awesome experience as a BKF volunteer in Glastonbury was incredible and I would certainly highly recommend it to anyone who has a passion for music and helping the less fortunate.  Secondly BKF is the charity to volunteer for as it has tremendous objectives impacting on the lives of the less fortunate!!!!!

My other wow, wow factor was in meeting Michael Eavis, this was a great privilege.  Other privileges included being in one of the best camp sites with our own hot showers, being provided with two meals a day and of course our special wrist bands!

Finally, volunteering as part of the recycling crew, in itself, was a very rewarding experience. Not only did I get the personal satisfaction of seeing the festival goers go on to a clean field every morning, but I also met a bunch of amazing people with whom I had a lot in common.  This meant that every day I was looking forward to a great shift working with them.

The thing that everyone has in common in Glastonbury is their love for music and having fun. The vibe was incredible, the music was out of this world, the weather was great (but don’t bet on it being that good every year!).

I look forward to seeing you there next year!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS

We would like to thank you for your valued help and support throughout 2012 and look forward to working with you in 2013.

Your valuable support helped us to achieve so much but there is still so much more that needs to be done, so we hope you will continue to partner with us during this new year.

NEW YEAR'S DAY WALK

The new year got off to a good start with some of our volunteers doing their annual sponsored walk around the Erddig Estate in Wrexham.   We are waiting for the sponsorship forms to come in and will let you know how much was raised as soon as this is known.

GLASTONBURY 2013

I am pleased to confirm that we have been offered some recycling fund-raising places again for 2013.  So if you are interested in joining us again this year or missed out on a place in 2011, watch out for details which will be available soon.   In the meantime, why not share this around your family and friends before they book a paid for place - we were told by our volunteers who took part in 2011 that this was much more fun!!

NEW FUND-RAISING IDEAS

We are always on the look out for new ways to raise funds, so if you have any exciting fund-raising ideas or suggestions you would like to share with us then please e-mail them to Esther at e.kamau@breakthroughfoundation.org she would love to hear from you.

Kind regards

Norman's visit to Kenya - June 2012

NORMAN, STELLA & LINDA BETT'S SHARE ABOUT THEIR VISIT TO KENYA

Where do we begin?  Well first and foremost I want to thank everyone concerned!  Esther, Peter for his taxi driving skills, and of course Irene (Esthers sister) and her family for putting up with us!

We travelled to Ju Ju New Beginning's school and what an experience it was.  When we arrived we came upon something so, so, special.   I must admit it brought tears to my eyes.  It is just like Esther said, it's like your first born child.

We presented the staff with the items we were able to take, then discussed what should be left at the school and what could be given to the children.  We decided there should be a presentation day.  This was done the following week.

The presentation day arrived and once again we had the experience of travelling to Ju Ju. Was it worth it, you bet it was.  We were met, not only by the staff and children but also by the parents (this is a day we will never forget).  There were songs, dances and poems from the children.  There were presentations for good work, from the tots to the older children and photo opportunities galore.  The parents enjoyed it as much as the children.  It was so encouraging to see.  Every little penny helps, just to see the smiles on the children's and the parent's faces it was well worth it.

Inbetween we visited a very articulate young man, Kelvin!
It was a joy to meet and chat with him.

Hope to meet up with Kelvin and Ju Ju school again as soon as possible.
                                                      This was an unbelievable experience.

                                                              Best Wishes to everyone

We have posted some photographs taken by Norman - one of our supporters - with his family on their recent holiday to Kenya, where they took the time and opportunity to visit The New Beginnings Academy and met the children and staff.

The Water Run

Well Ollie has completed his first week of the Water Run and he is doing amazingly well.

Visit his Facebook page for further information and view his videos.

And remember, this event isn't just about raising money it is also trying to raise awareness to the millions of people each day that have to walk long distances to get clean water.

Please post your comments on either Breakthrough's FB or directly onto The Water Runs facebook page.

Thank you for supporting us.
